The Pump Jack Capital of Texas - Electra's story begins with the historic 1911 Clayco Oil Discovery. On April 1, 1911, the Clayco No. 1 well erupted in a spectacular geyser of oil, transforming this small farming community into an oil boom town.
The discovery led to a drilling boom that brought hundreds of exploration companies to the area. At its peak in 1913, the Electra oilfield produced over eight million barrels of oil. Today, the community is home to approximately 5,000 pump jacks within a 10-mile radius, earning it the official designation as Texas's Pump Jack Capital.
This rich oil heritage is celebrated annually with the Pump Jack Festival and serves as a reminder of Electra's important role in Texas petroleum history.
